I am Number Four By Pittacus Lore

There were NINE of us who escaped...
Number ONE was killed in Malaysia.
Number TWO murdered in England.
Number THREE was hunted down in Kenya.
Before they come for the others, they'll come for me.
I AM NUMBER FOUR

John Smith is not your average teenager. He seems like one, acts like one, but he's not. John Smith is not from earth. He has powers that are unimaginable. He moves from town to town. He changes his name and identity. He does not put down root. He cannot tell anyone who or what he really is. If he stops moving, those who hunt him will find him and kill him. But when John decides he has had enough of travelling and wants to settle down is Paradise, Ohio, danger is lurking everywhere and no one is safe. For once in his life he makes some real friends. People he cares about, people who care about him. But it's just a matter of time before his secret is revealed. And there is always a chance for him to be killed, for his loved ones to be killed, gone. Power in numbers. That's what they need. They need to survive.

I recommend this for our age group and up as it has a bit of violence and gruesome scenes. It's a thrilling and captivating science fiction/fantasy book. It has four books in the series. I am Number Four; The Power of Six; The Rise of Nine; and The Fall of Five. This is one of my favourite series, along with Divergent and The Hunger Games. Rated 5 out of 5. It's suitable for both girls and boys including action, romance and mystery. I am Number Four is also a movie, but it's nowhere as near as good as the book. Supposedly there is a fifth book coming out soon...
All is to be revealed...

THE BFG

The BFG

Now I know everyone has heard or read this book, but those who haven't I highly recommend it. This is a book with a whole chunk of CREATIVITY, or on the the book they describe it as: whoppsy, gloriumptios, whiffling, jumbly and hopscotchy! What happens when everyone is asleep? Do you get spied on? Or do you get eaten? Or are you lucky enough to get a good nights sleep with a sweet dream? The author of this book is Roald Dahl, and check out some of his other stories!

Eva: the hunger games

The hunger games:

The hunger games is an thrilling book that raises all standards for science fiction completely. You can not go without reading this book and even though the main character is a girl this is definiely not a romance novel (even though romance is included). This book includes a girl named Katniss who has suffered so much and is about to suffer more when she volunteers to sacrafice herself in the hunger games for her sisters safety. It all started 74 years ago when the capitol won the war against the rebellions and decided to punish them by holding the hunger games. Each year all 12 districts have to pick a girl and a boy from 12 years old to 18 to be placed in the arena where the capitol ( the extravagent city where money is no object) watch them fight to the death until there is only 1 tribute who gets to live in luxury but Katniss didn't volunteer for the hunger games because for the luxurious life of the capitol nor for the fame only because she loves her sister and would never let her go into the arena. This story shows an innocent girl from district 12 turn into a strong women who would do anything to stay alive but when her fellow tribute Peeta how will she react then?

Insurgent

Insurgent

Insurgent is a great book, the second in the Divergent series.
Tris lives in Chicago, a city made up of five different factions, Amity- For people who think Anger starts war, Dauntless- For people who think Cowardice starts the war, Candor- For people who think lies starts war, Abnegation- For people who think selfishness starts war, Erudite- For people who think unintelligent people starts war. In this city once you turn sixteen, you must choose which faction you belong in. Tris chose a different faction but war breaks out.  She travels to different faction headquarters in hope to save her former home.
Tris and her friends need a plan. And very soon. Friends ally with enemies. You don't know who you can trust.

This book is really great and I recommend it for anyone in Year 6 up. I rate it 200 out of 10 and I am sure anyone who has read it will agree with me. If you would like to read the Divergent series I suggest you look at Lucy's Divergent review and read Divergent first. There are three books in these series it goes- Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant.

Anyone who loves- Science Fiction or Fantasy will love these books, and even if you don't I would suggest giving the Divergent series a go.

The Divergent movie is coming out in March.

His Dark Materials

This Fantasy series 'His Dark Materials' is about two children who get caught up in following their parents footsteps in which they try to find out about dust. They do many things such as cut into other worlds and trick armoured bears and witches in the North and of course other worlds. These children face many challenges such as people trying to cut away their daemeons (half their sole that shows emotion in the form of an animal). This series has one various awards and can be found in the library.

Dancing Jax

Dancing Jax

By Robin Jarvis
This book is about a book that you just can't put down. It hypnotises people and makes them think they are someone that they're not.
I think that this book is really interesting (but it took me a long time to read because it was so thick). Sometimes I had to stop because it put pictures in my head!
This is senior fiction and it is in our library.

There is also a sequel to this book, if you find this one interesting and want more....

FREAX AND REJEX

This book is also in our library.

Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan

This is an awesome book series. But before you read it, I recommend you should read the Percy Jackson stories by Rick Riordan first. If you don't read it, then you won't get half the plot. If you don't know what the Percy Jackson books in order, I'll tell you now:
  1. Lightning Thief
  2. Sea of Monsters
  3. Titan's Curse
  4. Battle of the Labyrinth
  5. Last Olympian
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The Heroes of Olympus series is the sequel of the Percy Jackson series and they all have different point of views including Percy Jackson's.  Order:

  1. Lost Hero
  2. Son of Neptune
  3. Mark of Athena
  4. House of Hades
  5. Blood of Olympus

The book is based on mythology (Greek/Roman) that sets in the modern world. There are people who are demigods (half human, half god) and a Great Prophecy stating that 7 of them would have to save the world from a very evil, bad guy.

There are deaths, monsters, prophecies and many more. Expect a cliff-hanger or two. :P You learn interesting Greek and Roman mythology that can be used for future studies.

What I like the most is the author's writing style and the characters in the series. He portrays each character differently, each having talents, flaws, and what it's like being a hero at a young age. Each character swap (different POV) from one character to another is confusing at first, but then it gets easier as you get to experience their troubles, their thoughts, their personality, and their backstory.

I recommend the series to boys and girls. I recommend the series to readers who like  fantasy, humour, and action. Each book has about 500+ pages so like me, a reader that loves ginormous books than this is the one for you.

These books you can never put down. It captivates you and is just awesome. :-)

Mascot Madness

Mascot Madness is another great book by Andy Griffiths. It is part of a series called schooling around
and this is the third book. The book is about a athletics competition and mascots. I find this a fun and entertaining book and I rate it a 8/10 (but you might have a different opinion) I have read this a couple of times and have enjoyed it.  The age I would rate it would be any age because lots of different ages might like it.I suggest you read this to see if you like it or not.

Night Race to Kawau by Tessa Duder

"He's not here Mum. He's gone. He's fallen overboard."

This book is full of suspense and action. It is set in the Hauraki Gulf and so many of the landmarks will be familiar, so will the day to day life of the Kiwi family we are introduced to in the first few chapters. The family set off on a sailing race to Kawau Island, they are a sailing family and have done many trips together, however, this time it is at night.

I especially enjoyed the humor from the main character Sam. At times the book could be classed as a comedy with quick-witted sharp comments or Sam's personal satisfaction when she starts to realise adults can muck up too..."Sam turned toward the dinghy lockers, feeling that slightly guilty sense of triumph she had whenever her mother slipped up somewhere"

She is a strong, independent character who is keen to be given more responsibility both at home and on the yacht. This adventure definitely tests her both physically and mentally.

If you enjoy adventure stories with a hint of terror pick up this book and search out a secluded corner, you will not want to put it down once you start!

After you have enjoyed this book try Alex and its sequal Alex in Winter also by Tessa Duder.

Gone by Michael Grant

Gone is a science-fiction read written by Michael Grant. Based in a small town near southern California where life as you know it ends at 15. Families separated everyone cut off from the outside world. Mutant power has been developed for some of the survivors that no one has ever seen before. Chaos rules the streets. Now a new world order is rising, even scarier and more dangerous than ever before. It's a world without adults.I highly recommend this book as it is action packed, a bit of magic and is a all in one book. I would rate this book a 10 out of 10 and is properly one of the best books I have ever read. Gone is the first book of it's series followed by HUNGER, LIES, PLAGUE & FEAR.

Catching fire By Suzanne Collins

This book is amazing it really hooks you. Catching fire is the second book in the hunger games trilogy! I am currently reading the third book in the series but  my opinion is that catching fire is the best! Katness Everdeen is the main character she has a younger sister Prim and is good friends with a guy called Gale but they are a little more then friends but nothing has ever been the same since the games!
I rate this book ten out of ten!
I recommend this for my age group. (This may not be suitable for younger audiences)

Varjak Paw

Varjak Paw

Varjak Paw. A  cat who lives with his family in the Contessa's house is treated badly by his elder brothers and siblings. One day when his grandfather senses danger in the house, he tells the only cat he can trust, Varjak Paw, the secret fighting way of the Mesopotamian Blues. Varjak, the cat, has to bring a dog back to his family and help save them. Will he be able to fulfill his mission?
I would recommend this book to any age group as it is suitable for all and it has an interesting and twitching plot. This is the first book of the two books. I would personally rate this a 9.5 out of 10.

Divergent By Veronica Roth

DIVERGENT:

Explanation:
Divergent is a science fiction book, written by Veronica Roth. It is based in Chicago, in the frighteningly near dystopian future. A city is split up into five different factions (five different ways of living and thinking), Abnegation (the selfless); Amity (the kind); Candor (the honest); Dauntless (the brave); and Erudite (the intelligent). The factions were created after long days of war that ended up destroying almost everything. They believe that if everyone sticks to their way on living in their faction there will be no conflict between one-another; so that a war will not rebel. But who exactly are they? Who started the factions?
On a specific day every year. Every sixteen year old in the city is required to take an aptitude test which will tell them which faction suits them best. If you choose to leave to a different faction, there is no going back to your family, ever.
When a young Abnegation girl, Beatrice Prior, turns sixteen, it is her turn to choose which faction she belongs to. Although, when Beatrice takes the aptitude test, something goes terribly wrong. Her results are inconclusive. She cannot fit into one faction, she cannot be controlled, she is Divergent.
Beatrice is warned that divergence is extremely rare and extremely dangerous, she has to hide it, or she can be killed. But why is it so bad? She didn't mean to be divergent. More questions need to be discovered, and what will happen when she meets someone, someone like her, someone who is divergent. Whispers of a rebellion are lurking through the streets, or is that just a rumour? One action can cost you your life. And what happens when someone finds out she is divergent? She can't hide forever...

Why I recommend it:
I recommend this for our age group and up. It's a gripping and captivating book with two others in the series (Insurgent and Allegiant). It is an addictive book because it leaves you wondering and asking questions and thinking what it would be like if your world was like this, so you just have to keep on reading! This is by far one of the best books I've ever read. It has something for everybody, action; fighting; mystery; and romance. If you liked the Hunger Games series, you'll love this! I know I do! Divergent is also a movie, coming this year early April.

Harry Potter series

I would recommend this series to anyone. These books are about Harry Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. There are seven books in the series and my favourite book is the fourth but you must read the books before it. Here is the summary for book one:

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy - until he is rescued by a beetle-eyed giant of a man, enrols at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learns to play Quidditch and does battle in a deadly duel. The reason: HARRY POTTER IS A WIZARD!
